Controller
Position Overview:
Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, the Controller will be a vital member of the management team, responsible for scaling the accounting function to support the company’s rapid growth. As the first accounting hire, this hands-on role requires someone who can roll up their sleeves and isn’t afraid to get into the weeds. The ideal candidate will have experience scaling the accounting function in a fast-growing SaaS company, with a strong track record of managing large projects from start to finish. They should also possess the strategic vision to anticipate the company’s evolving financial needs and the adaptability to thrive in a dynamic, high-growth environment.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Financial Oversight: Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, ensuring compliance with GAAP.
- Internal Controls: Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize the protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflows.
- Accounting Operations: Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll review, and managing our outside accounting firm.
- Annual Audit: Help lead and manage our annual audit process.
- Sales Tax Management: Manage and roll out sales tax compliance and reporting processes across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring timely and accurate filings.
- Financial Analysis & Reporting: Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements and other reports required by senior management and external stakeholders.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities for streamlining accounting processes and improving financial systems.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in business, accounting, finance, or a related field. CPA certification is required.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, with at least 4 years in a senior-level role.
- Industry Experience: Experience in a SaaS business environment is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in QuickBooks and experience with NetSuite a plus. Strong understanding of sales tax management and compliance. Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead and manage a team, with a hands-on approach to problem-solving.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in financial reporting and analysis.
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment, with a proactive approach to tackling challenges.
